2011 Honda CR-Z Mugen Hybrid

Honda has officially revealed the 2011 Honda CR-Z at the Detroit Auto Show. As anticipated, the CR-Z finally brings some excitement to the uninspired hybrid segment. Honda says it will bring back the kind of driving joy that hasn’t been felt since the CRX.

The CR-Z isn’t pretty and looks to have combined the styling language of both the CRX and the first-generation Insight hybrid. The futuristic interior styling found in the current Honda Insight and Civic also finds its way into the CR-Z.

The Honda CR-Z will launch with a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor. Together, both engines produce only 122 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. Two transmission are available — a standard six-speed manual and a CVT. The manual gets 21 mpg city and 37 mpg highway, whereas the CVT CR-Z gets 36 mpg city and 38 mpg highway.

The CR-Z won’t be winning us any drag races anytime soon. On paper, it doesn’t sound sporty, but hopefully the manual-equipped model is good around the track. Honda’s “sports” hybrid will be available this summer.
